The importance of Dietrich Bonhoeffer for modern theology is enormous. As a resistance figure he is a courageous example, as a Christian he is an inspiring witness of faith, and as a theologian he is the stimulating conversation partner for Christian theologians worldwide. This course concentrates on his Ethics, his unfinished project of a Christian ethics, and situates this book within the whole of his theology. Time and again in his chapters Bonhoeffer was looking for a way to answer the questions of concrete life, seen from the perspective of the reality of God in Christ. By close reading of his texts we analyze his ‘essayistic’ method. Also we ask for the relevance of his material ethics for today.
